New 13-story 450,000 gsf office building with 200,000 gsf four levels below grade parking. The building incorporates existing historic exterior walls at 15th and K Streets. "What we see here in the Investment Building is historic preservation at work," said Mayor Anthony Williams. "This building, in the heart of the downtown business district, has long been an important part of Washington's landscape." Some of the work being done on the building mirrors another famous DC renovation project. Modeled after preservation of the Washington Monument, TCE designed scaffolding to blend in with the historic building's facade.
226,000 gsf in 11 floors of offices, cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete flat slab with 15' perimeter cantilevers to eliminate perimeter columns, and one 22,000 gsf office floor below grade over 77,000 gsf in three levels below grade cast-in-place reinforced concrete parking garage.
Four office buildings encompassing 2,000,000 gsf, 10 or 14-stories of composite steel structure with three levels below grade cast-in-place post-tensioned parking garage, and additional seven-story precast concrete, 1,200 car parking garage with two-stories below grade reinforced concrete parking garage.
See "The Investment Building Journal Entry", taken from the June/July 2000 issue of the Association for Preservation Technology magazine, for more information on the technical aspects of supporting the Investment Building's fragile historic eleven story facade, led in part by Rick Edelson of TCE.
